The collection consists of: rulebooks and handbooks (1916-1939) to be used by the officers of the U.S. District Court for the Canal Zone; copies of the 1934 Bill and Act establishing a code of laws for the Zone; publications of the Isthmian Canal Commission (1907-1912); records of cases tried (1907-1910) and certain fees collected (1929-1935); legal documents such as opinions and memoranda of two divisions of the District Court (1940-1944); and short records for the Central American Construction Company (1912). The legal documents concern the right of the court to hold an individual for trial when there was no corroboration of the "evidence of accomplices" given during an "examining" trial (GOVERNMENT OF THE CANAL ZONE VS. MCCARTY), and a land case which was in the courts for over thirty-seven years (PLAYA DE FLOR LAND AND IMPROVEMENT CO. VS. U.S.A.).
